She caught a movement out of the corner of their eye - a hand lifting. Assuming a friendly greeting, her own hand started its automatic upward arc. Then, the slow-motion replay in her brain: the other person was actually just adjusting their scarf, maybe checking their watch. They weren’t actually waving, and definitely not to her. The internal cringe, however, was very real, a silent reminder to practice better observational skills before engaging in unsolicited limb movements.
