They entered at the same time. One awkward shuffle, one polite nod, no words. 

They’re both intensely aware of the ding for every floor. The hum of the lights. The unbearable sound of breathing. One looks straight ahead. The other one studies the ceiling like it’s the Sistine Chapel. No one knows where to put their arms. 

Their gold hearts are kind, but right now? Full of social panic and desperate for the sweet release of Floor 7.
