One moment, they were gliding through the world with quiet confidence. The next they’re betrayed by an uneven pavement, a rogue shoelace, or possibly just gravity itself. 

Time slowed. Arms flailed. A noise escaped their mouth that can only be described as part gasp, part pigeon. And of course, every single person in a 200-metre radius happened to be looking directly at them. But they recover with all the poise of a startled flamingo. A subtle nod. A completely unnecessary stretch. A look that says: “That was part of my interpretive walk routine, thank you very much.”
